Work Ethics

I just thought I'd open a discussion on work-ethics. What do you all think of it? Do we put too much emphasis on them? Do they very country to country? Should we be trying to copy someone else's work ethics or go with our own? Thoughts?

Aidpage group discussing "hard-working"...

~ I'm a great believer in luck and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it. ~ Thomas Jefferson

~ You'll never succeed in idealizing hard work. Before you can dig mother earth you've got to take off your ideal jacket. The harder a man works, at brute labor, the thinner becomes his idealism, the darker his mind. ~  D.H. Lawrence

~ When you live for a strong purpose, then hard work isn’t an option. It’s a necessity. ~  Steve Pavlina

Aidpage group discussing "hard-working"...

Feel free to participate in this public group space.

Two easy ways to do this:

  1. Add a comment or a question here - on this page... or on any other page in this space.
  2. Or, if you want to start a separate thread - make a new page.

Either way is good - the important thing is your participation. On Aidpage, people support each other by speaking out and by paying attention to each other - as simple as that.

About nikki531

I cannot believe Im going to do this, but when one gets desperate enough, I guess he/she will try anything.  Here's my story and my letter to the members of Congress from the State of MD.  I hope any visitor to this will do one of two things (1) join me in my ralley to get this bailout nonsense resoved and/or (2) make some sort of charitable donation to me whereas Im facing extinction!!!!

October 10, 2008 The Honorable Steny H HoyerUS House of Representatives1705 Longworth House Office BuildingWashington, DC 20515-2005 RE:      Bailout Misuse To The Honorable Steny Hoyer: I’m a single mother of two young boys who has undergone major financial hardships as a result of our failing economy and mismanagement of resources, etc.  Only three years ago I was the proud proprietor of a newly established business and happily watched operations expand from five employees to as many as thirteen over the course of my first year and half of operations. My business was a full service day spa (which received Best New Business in Calvert County, Maryland in 2006).  Throughout the later half of 2007 and into all of 2008, I observed in horror as receipts continuously dropped.  I bypassed payrolls to myself in order to keep money in the business with the hopes that this recession would soon turn.   As I am sure you are aware, the economy did not turn. In fact, it has been continuing in this downward spiral aggressively since late 2007.  I’m now writing this letter to you to notify you that I am a paycheck short of homelessness!  I have been forced into Chapter 7 bankruptcy, and I have closed my business for operation. I’ve lost my dream home and now I’m struggling, (while working two jobs), to make ends meet and am not doing such a good job at it.  I have been forced to accept full-time work at a pay rate much lower than I am qualified. I try to feel blessed by the fact that I was able to obtain a job. Now, I have accepted part-time work because I’m falling short of income to pay my monthly expenses. I hear about the father taking his life and those of his family members and I can unfortunately relate to the feeling of despair and anguish that he felt before committing such a horrible act. The quality of family living is nearly diminished in my household! I have been blessed with two remarkable young boys and I’m stressed, depressed, and have also considered suicide - thinking that my children would be better off with family than with a mother who has lost everything! My faith gets me through those dark moments. I hold a Bachelors degree and have been a law abiding citizen my entire life.  I was a former Peace Corps Volunteer and self respecting business owner.  Now I am destitute, about to lose my means of transportation to get to work and earn an income, struggling to pay my rent (hence facing losing a place to live again), and left to wonder everyday where I am going to scrape the money to buy groceries, pay daycare, keep utilities on, etc? That is the state of affairs for me.  Then I get to wake up and hear about corporations like AIG getting major funding to assist them (and I’m paying an additional $2300 to help make this happen) – while their executives enjoy lavish “Corporate Retreats” to the St Regis Hotel to the tune of $440,000.00 after having just received $85 billion dollars in bailout funds!!! So here is my question; who is going to bail me out?  Who is going to keep me from losing EVERYTHING?!!!!  Why did the thought not ever occur to any Congress man/woman that it would have made MORE SENSE to offer this bailout money to the very people you are collecting the funds from?  Disperse a flat amount to every household to the tune of $100,000.00/household and see how the economy stimulates again.  Mortgages would have been brought current, student loans would be resolved, outstanding child support payments would be paid, cars would be purchased . . . basically, the consumer would have faith restored in the economy and would be willing to take those pittance of pennies they are currently hiding under their mattresses!  Why was a consumer bailout never proposed?  Those funds that went to Wall Street and the large corporations will not be of any use to the average “Joe” like me. I hear all this talk of getting the money to Main Street, well our address is a long, long distance away – as if the money Congress just pissed away – at my expense! In fact, I think I would like to tell the IRS and yourselves directly, via this document, that my answer is NO! I REFUSE to endure a $2300 tax increase for your bailout that will have absolutely NO IMPACT on improving my current situation whatsoever. I want a response to this.  I want answers.  I am not stopping until Congress and its members listen, hear, and act on this additional atrocity we the public has just endured. I want fines imposed on AIG and I want any additional funding reversed and or stopped! I want CEO’s and any other top tiered executives of all of these institutions in the bailout – FIRED! I want our money that we are paying in taxes for this bailout re-directed to us.  Otherwise, get ready to see the obituary section become as large as the foreclosure section.  Then try to sleep at night as you realize that those lives wasted were directly affected by your actions. Enough is enough. Sincerely,

I am a married female who is 38 years of age.  I have no children.  I am  a hard-working person but am currently on leave without pay from my job to help aid my husband who was in a debilitating auto accident in July of this year.  It is impossible to make it without any income.  Hopefully I will be returning to work some time in October.  I just need some help to keep and get me on my feet again.

I am a single mother of 2 boys, one still at home. He will be a senior in high school this year. The other son lives away from home. I have a new granddaughter, who was born Jan. 31, that I have not yet seen due to my financial situation.

I was employed in a factory, I have never done factory work in my entire live. I took this job as a way to make ends meet. This job only paid $8/hour and I worked 12/hour shifts. I have since been let go due to the fact I was diagnosed with carpal and cubital tunnel syndrom and the company has fought to not pay the doctor, medical and surgery bills.

I have been denied unemployment and am appealing that decision. In the meantime I have been looking for work and have been without an income for 6 weeks. I have been hired by 2 seperate businesses as part-time help and will be only making minimum wage at both places.

I do have a lawyer working on a case for worker's compensation, he has informed me that my case goes in front of the arbitrator here in the next couple of weeks, so here again I will be unemployed.

I have 1 year of college under my belt and am starting my second year, to receive my Bachelor's degree in the future. I am determined to finish my education, so that I may improve myself, my job and my way of living. Most important of all, I want to be a role model for my sons and to show them, I may be down for now, but not out.

I grew up in a small town in Arkansas where I graduated high school with a full paid tuition scholarship to a local university where I graduated with a Bachelor's degree.  My parents went through a divorce when my sister and I were 12 (I have a twin!), so my mother supported us financially until our high school graduation when I had to move on my own.  I am glad that I have lived on my own and supported myself because it gave me a sense of responsibility and pride.  It has also molded me into a hard-working, driven individual who sets goals and does everything possible to meet those goals.  I want to continue my education to help others.  I have a vested interest in this field (Clinical Nutrition) because of numerous family members with Diabetes and other diseases that nutrition can aid.  Through my current job position, I see the power of nutrition and exercise and the impact that it can have on health status of many individuals across the United States.  I am truly interested in this and look forward to the day that I can say that I helped save someone's life or changed their health status in a positive manner.
